Hitching Post 2006 “Perfect Set” Pinot Noir, Santa Rita Hills

Risqué is inevitably attracted to a perfect set… set of pearly white teeth, set of ripped abs, set of hard pectorals, set of defined guns… and oh, not to forget, his delicious set… of LV Luggage! It seems determined that he would be drawn to Hitching Post’s 2006 “Perfect Set” Pinot Noir.

With a clear glinting Ruby Red, one quick swirl of the glass provokes essences of bright raspberry, earthy mushroom, Sarsaparilla and embracing spice. Its oral penetration announces a lively and rustic tart raspberry, cherry, a subtle tanginess on the backside that sets up some bilious swirling tannins.

Risqué recommends letting the wine breath and pairing it with food….   As Risqué created his own “Perfect Set” by pairing it with some matched medium rare grilled Kobe Rib-eye steaks topped with a sharp horseradish sour cream sauce…. Almost as dreamy as the perfectly matched set of bright sapphire blue eyes of his gorgeous dinner date… Absolute luxury!

VINO JACKPOT!

AVANT's Tasting Room

AVANT, the latest State-of-the-Art Tapas and Wine bar in Buellton, California is where Risqué chose to socialize last Saturday, as he did what he loves most… partake of the reward of the Gods! One of Risqué’s Winemaker LUSHES, Nick Morello, opened the doors to this innovative establishment only a couple weeks ago where they pour 32 different and amazing wines served alongside delectable inspired Tapas.

What makes AVANT State-of-the-Art are the machines that dispense their wines. Just like Risqué’s favorite slot machines, one inserts their card given to them by the staff into the machine. Fortunately, AVANT has a description of each wine so the anticipating Oenophile (or Novice) is able to make an almost sure bet/selection as to what wine will bring the most payoffs by selecting a 1 oz. taste, half glass sample or full glass indulgence.

And just like Risqué’s favorite gambling den, the amount you invest/consume is tracked on the card. Of course, this can be a surprise for a satiated LUSH as to how much were the spoils when the card is swiped and totaled on the computer register before departure.

After Risqué played his luck on the Vino Jackpot machines, he ventured on to amuse his palate with Chef Chris Warrick’s wine pairing special where he paired his creativity with some of Imagine’s prize wines.

Imagine 2008 Chardonnay with a slice of Robiola Bosnia cheese …perrrfect with the butteriness of the Chardonnay!

Imagine 2006 Viognier with Shrimp Crostini and Chimichurri …delightful complement where the Viognier is a nice counterbalance to the garlicky Chimichurri. Wow!!

Imagine 2006 Pinot Noir with Grilled Shrimp tightly wrapped in Serrano ham …the Berries, cinnamon and nutmeg in the Pinot enhances the saltiness of the ham and sweetness in the shrimp.

Imagine 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon paired with some slices of Barolo Sausage …black cherries, currants and a hint of chocolate contend with the salt and spice of the sausage. Amazing!!

Risqué was a bit confused as to where AVANT was located as the GPS on Risqué’s M5 only told him so much… Risqué offers the following advice… “Just go gaily forward to the backside” as AVANT is located behind the Terravant facility. Nick assured Risqué that better signage will prevail soon as Risqué tantalizes his LUSHES to visit AVANT’s Vino . AVANT is located at 59 Industrial Way H, Buellton CA.

Risqué recommends to all his LUSHES that they hit the machines at AVANT and win big with a Vino Jackpot!!!

AN ORAL PROCLIVITY

Risqué has been known to appropriate various proclivities. However, his favorite proclivity is that of an oral nature in which he grasps a fabulous glass of wine and sips his way to nirvana. On one special occasion, Risqué had the opportunity to meet a woman, Élan Fayard, who would arouse Risqué’s oral proclivity with a bottle of Azur 2008 Rosé.

Risqué met first met Élan Fayard when she worked for Lynmar Estate in the Russian River Valley where she toured Risqué and his LUSHES through the winery. Later Élan was able to introduced Risqué to her husband, Julien Fayard’s wine and his proclivity for classic provençal rosé.

The Methode Provençal Rosé glints a very pale coral shade similar to the beautiful cascading Roses found at Risqué’s desert Chateau. The nose cultivates fond memories of ripe, juicy peach and airy florals, leading to the a very drinkable dry taste of light tangy peach and garden strawberry with a delicate hint of floral which blooming on the backside. The Rosé offers a “balanced natural acidity” and minerality that is perfectly food friendly.

Risqué often shares his proclivities with others as his LUSHES can prove. His fondness for the Azur 2008 Rosé was certainly the reason why he worked with Élan to have it poured at the LUSH-A-LICOUS wine tasting at GayDays Orlando 2009.

PILLOW TALK

Pillow Rd. Vineyard 2006 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley

During a recent trip to Napa, Risqué visited the restaurant PRESS where he met up with some favorite LUSHES who… just so happened to work there. The Restaurant, an inviting intimate suave contemporary environment, where Risqué soon made his way to the long wood topped bar. While perusing the wine list, the bartender recommended Pillow Rd.’s 2006 Pinot Noir. Risqué, always taking the bartenders queue, said “Of Course!”

This cushy wine shows a royal tone of ripened plum, leading the subject to enchanting aromas of intense cedar, juicy ripe cherry, a blend of red stone fruits and hints of spearmint. One might expect a volumous fruit bomb from the enticing nose, but one sip comforts the mouth with nicely balanced cherry, soft tannins and a silky structure, beautiful for paring with food. The 2006 Pinot Noir was aged for 11 months in French oak barrels and bottled only 1284 cases.

Risqué paired the 2006 Pinot Noir with PRESS’ Tartare of Hiramasa beef mixed with fresh mango, red chilies, ginger and lime, a delightful pairing with two glasses of Pillow Rd. One of Risqué’s
LUSHES insisted he meet the owner of Pillow Rd. Vineyard who was sitting at a table just behind Risqué and that Risqué must go make his presence known. Again, always taking the queue, Risqué made his way to the table where he introduced himself and met Pillow Rd. Vineyard owner, Patrick Stotesbery and his charming daughter. The delicious conversation made the Pinot Noir even more delightful!!!

Although he is highly experienced in the art of “Pillow Talk”, which is probably not the time to capitalize on this skill, Risqué chose to settling and enjoying his last glass of Pillow Rd. and save the “Downey Chat” for later!

THERE ONCE WAS A MAN WHO LIVED ON A HILL

Limerick Lane 2004 Collins Vineyard Zinfandel

There once was a Man who lived on a hill,
not a Lane or a Street but a Court…
And his name was not Will or Dane or Michelle…
but preferred to be known just by Curt…

Risqué met him quite strangely… his preference displayed,
on a website preferred just by men…
But a meeting once took… and ‘affinity at first look…
he was part of Risqué’s lovely plan…

A Gorgeous man… with Zinfandel in hand…
left Risqué a bit on the hook!!!
Being fond of the drink… and a bit of the PINK,
gave way to the flow that it took.

Looking back in hindsight, Risqué thinks he might,
repeat this effort of flesh…
A wine of such might and a memory delight..
left a friendship of memorable mesh.

Dry farmed are the vines of ancient of times,
of Limerick Lane is the dark colored Zin..
Inky ruby just hints at the richness of tints
and depth of the fruit that’s within.

Ripe on the nose it’s like briar (not rose),
but rich with cinnamon and spice.
Classic as Zin, elegant as Sin,
in the mouth it’s dark summer fruit, so nice.

Blackberry and plum are sumptuous and yum…
and raspberry and pepper delight
A balance so fine… Acidity sublime and tannins carefully in check
But the linger is long, so juicy and strong with a finish like a soft velvet kiss.

“SIN”CERE SANCERRE

Chateau de Sancerre 2005 Sauvignon Blanc, Loire, France

In Risqué’s version of man’s origin, Adam and Steve live in the depths of luxurious paradise. One day Steve, while perusing the Wine God, Bacchus’ cellar…the Cellar of the Knowledge of Good wine, stumbles upon a perfect cellar temp bottle of 2005 Chateau de Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc. Knowing that Bacchus had forbidden Adam and Steve to drink of any of the divine liquid, Steve is beguiled by its handsome label, perfect sloped shoulder and cute little punt. Steve succumbs and is lured into inserting his corkscrew into the bottles cork…issuing a subtle pop upon its release! Pouring this forbidden nectar, Steve’s senses are immediately transformed…

The light citron liquid shines nosegays of pleasant orange blossom, honey, miel, grapefruit, Meyer lemon and a touch of peachiness that ends with a light mineral wet stone. The luscious mouthfeel offers up tastes of white stone fruit being mostly peach with citrus bumping on the backside.

Being Adam’s better half, Steve quickly returns to Adam and persuades him to partake of the divine nectar where they are immediately enlightened, obviously with the knowledge of Good wine. Bacchus was furious and drove Adam and Steve from paradise and cursed them to having to suffer bad wine. Despair not… Risqué provides salvation and leads his LUSHES into rapturous delight away from the poor, awful and mundane wines of the curse.

Risqué ponders… Is it a sin to covet the things of the GODS and to indulge in the joy and pleasure that comes from partaking in such delightful “Sin”cere?
